Summary

Grade II* listed building. Main construction periods 1100 to 1999 12th/13thc Church, restored. Early 12th century two cell church comprising a chancel and nave. Additions took place during the 13th century and 15th century. It was in use as a church until about 1678 then converted to a barn. Alterations also took place during the 19th century. Restorations took place in the early and mid-late 20th century and in 1987 it was vested in the redundant Churches Fund. The church is of ragstone rubble and has a tile roof.

Description from record TQ 66 SE 13 :
(TQ 68466211) Church (NR) (Remains of) (1) The Church of St Benedict, Paddlesworth, is early Norman, in ruins, and used as a barn. It appears to have been used until 1678 or even later. (2,3,4) Restored in 1935 and in use on special occasions (a). The church is 12th and 13th c. and consists simply of chancel and nave. Although the main fabric is original the doors and windows have been extensively restored. The nave is thatched and the chancel tiled. See AO/59192/4 - view from N. (5) Checked and correct; the whole of the roof was re-tiled in 1962. (6) 18/2A Paddlesworth Church, Paddlesworth, Civil Parish of Snodland. Grade II. Paddlesworth used to be a distinct little parish but now is a hamlet of Snodland. The small church, which had become a farm building, was restored about 40 years ago. Early Norman chancel and nave. The chancel arch was heightened in the 13th century. Not in ecclesiastical use. Reference A.C. Vol. XXI. pp.260-272. Paddlesworth House and farm buildings, together with the small Norman church on the opposite side of the road (map No. 18/2, form a group. (7) Disused church. This is Norman, nave and straight-ended chancel, the sort of thing most churches around here started off as. No original window. (13th century chancel arch). (8) Listed Grade II*. (9)

Church, later farm building, now redundant. Early C12, C13, restored early C20 and mid-late C20. Ragstone rubble, tiled roof. Two cell church, nave and straight-ended chancel. Plain round-headed windows and north doorway. Plain interior with chancel arch heightened in C13. C19 roof to nave and C15 roof to chancel with single truss and braced king post. C19 gallery, traceried in C15-style below with former communion rail splat balusters to gallery rail above. Late C17 cast-iron candelabrum in nave. At time of re-survey vested in the redundant Churches Fund.
