[TQ 96047259] Borstal Hall [NAT] (1) Borstall Hall, one of the old manors of Minster, was the home of William Cromer, son-in-law of Lord Saye and Sele, and both were involved in Jack Cade's rebellion. The original hall has quite disappeared, but a late Tudor residence was erected in the 17 c., of red brick. The owner is Mr. George Ramuz, but it now goes by the name of Gilbert Hall.(2) The foundations alone remain. They are of brick in English Bond. Blackened timbers show the house to have been burnt down. Nearby inhabitants stated that the house was destroyed about 10 years ago.(3) BORSTAL HALL [NR] (remains of) [NAT] (4) Checked and correct (5)
