[TQ 93555232] Boardfield Church [G.T.] (site of). (1) Boardfield Church was in ruins temp. Charles I. Its site now is in a field on Waterditch Farm. (2) No trace of this church remains. The site was under crop when visited. (3) TQ 925523. Boardfield is listed as a deserted medieval village. (4) Virtually no deserted medieval villages have been proven in Kent. The list of villages given by Beresford & Hurst is, with one or two exceptions, a list of isolated churches only perhaps an isolated church and manor house. (5)(6) Resistivity survey carried out by the Lenham Archaeological Society in 2008 detected the outline of the church (c. 25m x 9m) with an outlying feature c. 18 m to the north. Various sarsen stones had been moved from the field in the last century and the investigators suggest that this may indicate a more ancient role for the site. (8)
