Summary

At Pivington there used to be an old church and a graveyard; evidence for this has been seen during the raising of bones during agricultural work and subsidence in the area caused by the collapse of old vaults. This church was dedicated to St. Mary and but was converted into a stable when the parish was united with Pluckley. There are no visible remains of this church and the site is now under pasture.

[TQ 9184 4638] St. Mary's Church [NR] (site of) [NAT] (1) At Pevington there used to be an old church and a graveyard; agricultural work brings bones to the surface and subsidence has been caused by the collapse of old vaults. (2) Pevington is situated between Pluckley and Egerton churches, three quarters of a mile from the former, and was a parish until about 1583 when it was united to Pluckley. The church, which was dedicated to St. Mary, being in a ruinous state was converted into a stable (3). There are no visible remains of this church. The site is under pasture. (4)
