WEST KINGSDOWN CROWHURST LANE 1. 5280 Crowhurst Farm Cottages
TQ 5 SE 6/235 (Nos 1 and 2) 10.5.79 II 2. Circa 1450. Wealden hall-house. Timber-framed building of 2 storeys refaced with red brick on the ground floor and tile hung above. Steeply pitched hipped tiled roof. Three casement windows. Derelict at time of survey. Listing NGR: TQ5850663134 (1)
Description from record TQ 56 SE 18 :
5280 Crowhurst Farm Cottages (Nos 1 and 2), Crowhurst Lane, West Kingsdown. TQ 56 SE 6/235 10.5.79 Grade II. Circa 1450. Wealden hall-house. Timber-framed building of 2 storeys refaced with red brick on the ground floor and tile hung above. Steeply pitched hipped tiled roof. Three casement windows. Derelict at time of survey. (2) TQ 58516312. A farmhouse was found on investigation to be a Wealden hall-house masked by 19th century walls. Detailed drawings were made of the building which from internal features must date from about 1450 and have late 16th century chimneys, cellar and flooring across the hall. (3) TQ 58516312. Excavation beneath the west wall foundation of the 15th century Crowhurst Farm produced the base and rim of a large pot attributable to the mid 13th century.
