2. L-shaped range. Rear part probably C17. Front C18. Two storeys painted brick. Half-hipped tiled roof. Stringcourse. Three sashes with glazing bars intact. Doorcase with fluted pilasters, projecting cornice and rectangular fanlight. A Roman votive altar to the goddess Nehelenniae was found here.

Formerly TQ 56 NE 95

The original timber framed house was built in c1525. Fragmentary remains of two bays survive. The building was modified prob. c1650 to improve heating system and the front elevation. The E wall was rebuilt in brick in the L C17. In the E C18 there were 3 phases of modification. The E end of the house was totally reconstructed, in c1700 the W wall of the original structure was brick cladded and a cellar constructed. During this period the S bay of the original building was reconstructed. (2)

There were three stages of building in the later 17th to early 18th centuries. Then moderninsed during the 18th and 19th centuries. A coin dating to 1695 was found when the timber framed chimneys were being rebuilt in the southern bay. The surrounding farm buildings are alos being converted for residential use. The oasthouse dates to 1835. (3)

The votive alter is mentioned but there seems to be confusion over where and when it was found and if indeed one was found also. (3)
