The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ROCHESTER ST MARGARET'S STREET TQ 7468 SW 9/231 No 52 (The Limes) and garden wall to 24.10.50 north attached GV II* Former house, now offices. Late C17 with mid. C19 range to rear. Timber-framed and brick clad to older range, brick throughout to rear range; Kent-tile roofs. Plan: 2 parallel ranges of unequal height stand gable end-on to street, with high-status ground floor room to left, and central stairs to rear. Rear and lateral stacks. Behind this, a mid. C19 range running parallel to street under hipped roof with end stack. C17 build of 2 storeys and attic; rear range of 3 storeys. Front: plastered 2 gabled bays, the taller range with entrance to right. The latter with doorway in surround with reveals and panelled door; 1st floor with late C18 bowed oriel, 8:12:8 hornless sashes under cornice; 1 2-pane hornless sash with flush frame to gable wall. Left-hand range with 2 16-pane hornless sashes under continuous lintel to ground, another, set off-centre to 1st floor, and a 12-pane sash to gable wall.
Right return with later brick underpinning; 1 sash window, the others replaced, with a doorway (surround and bracketed canopy) giving in to short projecting rear extension of C17 range and set under catslide. Rear: regular 4-window range, 12 and 16-pane hornless sashes in reveals to upper and ground floors respectively, the latter with external shutters. Right-of-centre doorway with panelled reveals, attached Doric columns, canopy and glazed door (C20, with glazing bars). Interior: fine plaster detailing (ground floor, left), of c.1690s, with central oval relief containing foliage and fruit set in a square frame; internal doorcase with pediment and shouldered surround. Rear central open-wall stair, one turned baluster to each tread, square-section newels, panelled string, and with little Doric columns supporting the landings; stepped panelled wainscoting. Elsewhere much contemporary joinery (especially panelled doors, some with H-hinges), and a good bolection moulded chimney-piece. C19 rear range with door surrounds and other joinery.
