"Romano-British Hut Site, Lower Halstow". This consisted of a circular depression 10' in diam. and 1' 3" deep at its central point. The withies of ash and hazel which had supported the roof lay across the site.... A large quantity of broken RB. pottery vessels lay on the floor of the hut as well as three complete vessels. Animal bones were also present. The pottery consisted of furrowed ware, cordoned ware, in addition to pie-dishes dating from the 2nd half of the 2nd cent. A.D. ... More than 4' of alluvium has been deposited over the site." (1) [TQ 86756855] 2nd. C. A.D. hut site (a). A selection of pottery from this site, given by Burchell, is in Maidstone Mus: date of excavation unknown. The site has been destroyed by erosion and now lies below high water mark.
