Summary
Grade II* listed building. Main construction periods 1400 to 1599. A 15th century Wealden hall house recently restored and the hall opened up again. Two storeys, timber framed with plaster infill. The first floor of the end window bays oversails on brackets. Exposed curved braces. At one time it was divided into cottages.

(TQ 61687079) Dean & Chapters Cottages (NAT) (1) 5274 SOUTHFLEET RED STREET (north side) Chapter Farmhouse (formerly listed as Nos 1 and 2 Dean and Chapter Cottages) TQ 6170 12/46 1.6.67 II* GV 2. C15 wealden hall house recently restored and the hall opened up again. Two storeys, timber framed with plaster infill. The first floor of the end window bays oversails on brackets. Exposed curved braces. The eaves between have their timber-framing exposed and a cove and oversail on curved braces. Two casement windows and restored full height hall window with diamond shaped mullions. Hipped tiled roof with smoke louvres. C16 outside chimneystack to east elevation. C16 doorcase with spandrels. The interior contains the original service screen, crown post roof, an embattled beam to the solar end and a C16 stone fireplace to the hall which was ceiled over with chamfered beams in the C16.
