Enderby states that the earliest known record of this old inn occurs in 1792. The obvious reason for the name was from the large brewery on the opposite side of the street which was sold by Flints in 1849. The inn was originally listed as No. 9 Stour Street but renumbering appears to have taken place at some time since.
In Kelly's Directory for 1931 it is still listed as the Two Brewers where Alec J Davis is given as licensee; and it is still listed at the same address in Kelly's Directory of 1967. However, it is not listed in the Telephone Directory of 2002.
Innkeepers are listed as: 1792 John Tyler; 1797 Elizabeth Tyler; 1816 Francis Martin; 1831 James Dunk; 1838 Thomas Munns; 1846 Thomas West; 1847 William Gillis; 1882 James White; 1885 Edwin Shersby (died in harness 1911).
