The Canterbury UAD states that No 198 Wincheap was a Whitbread House inn.
Houses in Wincheap seem to have changed their street numbers several times.
In 1878 the White Horse was No. 75 and 76 and the innkeeper was Mr Joseph Pentecost and the two houses were probably converted into one to enlarge the premises at that time. In the 1960's the number changed from No. 83 to No. 198. The last innkeepers for 11 years were Mr & Mrs T Bowler.
The building is considered to be of 16th or 17th century date and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The White Horse closed as an inn in 1969.
