The following text is from the original listed building designation:
1. 5272 CHARING HIGH STREET (east side) No 26 (Ridgemount) and No 28 (formerly listed as Hope-Haven and shop adjoining) TQ 9549 22/22 14.2.67 II GV 2. A C15 to C16 timber-framed building, probably of Wealden pattern as traces of a recessed centre remain. Two storeys, with the timbering exposed and plaster infilling in the north wall, but refronted with weather boarding. Half-hipped gable at the north end. The eaves of the centre portion overhang on brackets. Tiled roof. Casement windows. Three modern bays on the ground floor. Both have doorcases with flat hoods on brackets.

Wealden house with formerly open 1-bay hall and undershot passage. The lower end was originally jettied to end as well as front. In the mid 16th century a small wing probably housing a kitchen was added behind the medieval services. In the 17th century the upper end was replaced by a new parlour wing. (2)
