4/15 No. 4 Tavern Cottage (formerly listed as 27.11.57 Dane Street Cottages)
GV II
Hall house. Circa 1500. Timber framed, exposed with plaster infill and part clad in red brick with plain tile roof. Truncated Wealden - the expected jettied bay to right burnt down in C18, as evidenced by the red brick cladding to this end wall. Remaining 3 framed bays: 2 storeys on plinth, left framed bay jettied at first floor. Hipped roof with gablets and now central ridge stack, inserted into old screens passage. Two framed bays to right were original recessed central hall. Irregular fenestration of 3 windows. C19 brick mullion windows to ground floor and first floor to right, casements to first floor left, and chamfered brick mullioned lights (C16?) to centre. Exposed central frame of original entry to screens passage, entrance now to rear. Interior: crown post roof.
