One of the earliest gas works in the country built around 1818. The site was originally located at the bend of the river now known as Gashouse Point. Gas House Road, which leads to the site, was presumably built to reach the site. The site includes buildings connected with gaswork and three gas holders, two of which date from at least 1899. (1)

Three buildings and a gas holder are shown on the Tithe Map of 1841. By the second half of the 19th century there were six gas holders on the site. By the late 19th century two large gas holders were added to the south west of the site. The third, and largest gas holder, was added in the 1930s or early 1940s.

The northern of the two late 19th century gas holder was recorded prior to demolition. (2)
