On No. 1 Bastion. Two casemated emplacements for 6-in. BL guns, with magazines. Canopies in damaged condition (1), site photographs (2-4).

To the north are housings for two WW2 6" BL (beech loading) naval guns. The housings are of brick with concrete walls reached by stairs on each side. A partion across the back of the emplacements creates a passage with alcoves, providing ammuniton lockers. In the eastern emplacement stairs on either side lead down to a war shelter underneath. Possibly this was the same on the western emplacement but the stairways have been infilled. Both emplacments have a ring of holdfast bolts for the gun mounting and the remains of a graduated arc. Arched grooves set in the floor to each side and slightly to the rear of the gun mountings may have been runners for loading trays. Around the tim of each roof are hooks for camouflage nets. Both emplacements have large holes knocked out in the side or rear walls through which the guns were withdrawn.(5)
