A type 24 Pillbox remains in good condition set in the modern concrete promenade by the road on the foreshore at Lower Upnor. It was built in 1940 to provide flanking fire along the beach and to protect the road from the beach.

Type 24. to provide flanking fire along the beaches and to protect road from beach. Excellent condition. A good candidate for statutory protection as a conveniently visible example of a pillbox from the GHQ line. Foreshore, Lower Upnor, opposite Arethusa Centre. (1). Site photographs (2-8). Seen in 2004, the pillbox is set in the modern concrete promenade by the road. Structurally intact. (9)
