Summary

A World War II pillbox located on the foreshore of the Medway near Cockham Wood, facing south. This type 24 concrete pillbox was a narrow wall version with a brick skin. The monument itself is in good condition but is tilting from subsistence.

Concrete type 24 pillbox on foreshore facing S across River Medway and enfilading beach E and W. Narrow wall version with brick skin. Although in good condition itself, the pillbox has tilted about 10 degrees S, due to subsidence below concrete slab foundation. On coastland above high water shingle (1), additional reference (2), for site photographs see (3-8). In the course of the rapid coastal zone survey this pillbox appeared to be inaccurately located. Its location at TQ77117120 (FCE), has been updated with the current GPS derived location. (9)
