[TQ 67446972] ST. THOMAS'S WELL [GT] (1) The name of "St. Thomas's Well" applies to the well, south of Watling Street and nearly 13 chains north of the Mount. The well is covered and a pump is erected on top of it. Said to have been visited by Thomas Becket. The owner is the Earl of Darnley. (2) The pump has been removed and the well is covered by a thick concrete slab. It is hidden under an accumulaton of dead leaves, etc. The well was covered in C.1950. It is not filled in. (3) No change. (4)

The well comprisd a circular shaft, built and capped in brickwork. The probable remains of an iron hand pump had been thrown down the shaft. The well has been sealed in sand and preserved in the mitigation earthworks of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link [9]
