Northwoo -m extent of Settlement as shown on the 1st and 2nd Edition O/S maps. There was very little expansion of the village shown on the 1st Edition O/S map apart from the Hare & Hounds Public House and some nearby cottages to the southwest. However, there was a major change shown on the 2nd Edition O/S map. The Northwood Hospital for Infectious Diseases was built after 1877 on a parcel of land abutting Margate Road and Jackey Baker's Farm on the outskirts of Northwood to the southwest. By the 1890's the hospital was considered too small and it was decided to build a new hospital in nearby Haine. The new hospital opened in 1902 and the old hospital burnt down in 1903.
