There was little growth of Pegwell visible on the 1st ed. OS map (1862-1875). (1).
One building appears on the western edge of the village were Pegwell Road turns north towards Chilton. A 91.4m (300ft) long was opened in 1879 and lost in1885; This had been part of the holiday resort development of the area, including hotels and gardens. In !874 work began on reclaiming the cove.

There was further growth on the western side of Pegwell Road, mainly along the line of the road. To the east of the village a row of four houses is visible, approx 50m from the edge of the village, these appear to follow field boundaries.
