A barbed wire entanglement enclosing a military installation of Second World War date was visible as structures in US/7PH/GP/LOC286 V 5010 19-APR-1944. The lines of wire completely surround Thorne except on the northen side, where the boundary was formed by the former course of the Cliffs End road. The barbed wire entanglement articulated with pillboxes, gun emplacements and a group of partially revetted slit trenches (see MKE104044, MKE125126, MKE125127, MKE125128, MKE125129).

The arrangement was recorded as demolished structures in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021 and was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1-2)
