Pipeline trenches of Second World War date were seen as earthworks and levelled earthworks in US/7PH/GP/LOC286 V 5010 19-APR-1944. These fragments of the Fog Investigation and Dispersal Operation (FIDO) system indicate where some of the fuel lines were installed during 1943-44, around the east end of RAF Manston's crash runway including the position of the burners at the runway approach. The features were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1)
