The extent of the village of Birchington as visible on the OS 1st and 2nd Editions (1897-1900) (1-2)

The village of Birchington expanded northwards along Station Road and Beach Avenue towards the coast following the opening of the mainline Railway Station in 1863. Meanwhile there was also development southwestwards along the Canterbury Road. A few residences were built on Park Lane.
