Two gun emplacements and slit trenches of Second World War date were visible as earthworks in RAF/HLA/383 RS 959 28-DEC-1941, RAF/HLA/380 STBD 959 15-DEC-1941 and US/7PH/GP/LOC295 V 5005 20-APR-1944. The features were recorded as levelled earthworks on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021.
Two covered gun emplacements, facing north, were positioned against a field boundary to the north of Crumps Farm, behind a barbed wire entanglement (MKE124385). The gun emplacements were formerly rcorded as MKE97391 and MKE97392.
An area of disturbed ground and a short revetment to the west side probably represent the position of a slit trench. A small slit trench is positioned between the two gun emplacements. A longer, zig-zag revetted slit trench is on their east side, apparently providing cover for a gap in the barbed wire entanglement.
These features formed part of the St Nicholas at Wade Defended Area that was established during 1940-41. They were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1-4)
