A military installation comprising huts, an air raid shelter, weapons pits and trenches of Second World War date was visible as a group of structures and earthworks in aerial photographs dating to the 1940s. The majority of these features were recorded from USAF photography dating to April 1944. Others were slightly later in date and were mapped from RAF photography dating to April 1946.
This military installation forms part of the St Nicholas at Wade Defended Area established in 1940-41. Huts of varying sizes were located in the grounds of St Nicholas Court to the south-east of the house and farm buildings. At least four huts enclosed by blast walls were postioned amongst trees. An air raid shelter, weapons pits and trenches were positioned to the north side of Court Road. The whole complex was enclosed by the extensive Defended Area trench and barbed wire entanglement network (MKE93217, MKE123954, MKE124389). All these features have been removed. They were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1-5)
