Summary

Romano-British cremation burials were found in 1933 during the construction of a chimney breast at Little Petherick, East Street in Ryarsh. Five second century burial groups were found. Finds included two penannular bronze bracelets with decorated terminals, one flagon, two flasks and a coarse ware jar. Several vessels of Samian ware were found including a beaker [Dechelette form 72] and four dishes [two of form 31, one of form 35 and one of form 18/31].

The finds are kept at Maidstone Museum.

[TQ 6603 5945] Roman Cremation burials found AD 1933 [T.I.] (1) Five 2nd c. cremation burial groups were found in March and April 1933 during the construction of the chimney breast in the lounge of Little Petherick, East Street, Ryarsh. The finds, now in Maidstone Museum (Acc. No. 14-1933) included 2 penannular bronze bracelets with decorated terminals, 1 Flagon, 2 Flasks, and a coarse ware jar, a samian beaker (Dechelette form 72), and 4 samian dishes (2 form 31, one form 35 and one form 18/31).
