During the demolition of Pound Cottages c. 1910, the remains of a Tudor residence were uncovered. The Tudor building seems to have been converted into workmen's cottages such that there was no indication of the earlier structure within. During demolition a 16th century gable was exposed as well as some ceiling panels bearing the crest of Henry VIII and other crests and decorations including a Tudor Rose, a Sun in Splendour and a crest of the Poynings Family (a key surmounted by a crown), who held the estate in the Tudor period. The final decoration was of an angel holding a shield with an 'IHC' monogram. This in idicative ofa date very early in the 16th century as later in the century the monogram would be more usually written as 'IHS'. (1)
