Excavations in advance of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in 2002-3 identified a number of Romano-British property boundaries west of the Ebbsfleet. Within property 10 on the western side of Watling Street, a number of substantial pits were uncovered including one which has ben interpreted as a well. This had an irregular plan but had traces of substantial timber lining measuring 0.6m by 0.5m in the base. An early Roman date for this feature is indicated. (1)
