Excavations in advance of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in 2002-3 identified a number of Romano-British property boundaries west of the Ebbsfleet. Within the boundary of property 3 a Roman well was uncovered. This lay on the north east edge of a yard associated with a timber structure, though the structure appears to be later in date. Though the well was not bottomed it appears to have had a square, timber-lined shaft of which only very degraded traces survived. This well appears to have gone out of use and been infilled by around AD 120 as there is nothing which could certainly be ascribed a mid-Roman date. (1)
