An early Roman hearth was identified during escavations carried out at Springhead between 200 and 2002. it overlay the edge of the metalling on a road leading to ritual pools located a short distance to the north west, and was set within the angle formed by the final phase of a roadside ditch where the road turned to the south. Perhaps contemporary with hearth was a slot, possibly a structural feature which may have been part of a shelter associated with the hearth.(1-2)
