Excavations in advance of the construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in 2001 found evidence of early/middle Roman enclosures and a substantial road to the north-west of Northfleet Roman villa. (1-7)

The early / middle Roman activity west of the Northfleet Roman villa included a well, a wood-lined pit, post holes, ditches and pits.

A number of ditches were identified to the south of the wood-lined pit. Ditch 12376 was approximately 0.90m wide and 0.70m deep. Ditch 100241 further to the east may have been a continuation of the same ditch.

Dating is uncertain and no finds except burnt flint were uncovered. Once infilled, ditch 100241 was cut by a pit.

Location accurate to 1m based on available information.
