Name:Former site of the Cannon brewery, High Street, Ramsgate

Summary

A Brewery was formerly located at 124 High Street in Ramsgate. In the late 19th and early 20th century it was known as the Cannon Brewery. It is marked on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition Ordnance Survey maps (c.1858-1922). A malthouse was also present at the site on the 3rd edition map of c.1905-1922. Brewing is thought to have continued at the site until 1920. The Brewery was reportedly demolished in 1939 having been previously used as a depository.

Owned by Cramp & Sons until at least 1859. Then taken over by Cannnon Brewery and later by Tomson & Wotton in 1878. Continued brewing until 1920.It was demolished by 1939 and is now a site of a bus station.(1) A L-shaped Malt house is marked on 25" maps, TR 3788 6510. This building may still be there, as similar building is marked on the modern maps. In 1939 it may have been used as a depository.(2) The maltings has since been converted for housing.
