In 1794-1795 five large wooden stables were constructed at the Western Heights for the board of Ordnance. They were originally constructed near the junction between the roads leading across the western heights and near the north entrance. These stables would have been for draught horses suggesting that construction materials were being transported and field artillery moved. By 1859 the stables had been demolished. (1)
