Site of brickworks operated from 1850s by George Smeed originally to make stock bricks using hand moulding berths supplied from wash backs..
Under Smeed Dean and Co Ltd it was rebuilt as a new red brick plant in 1906 with a Monarch brick moulding machine, Wolff dryer and an Osman continuous kiln (Hoffman kiln). The works were expanded in 1911.
Post 1906 the Centre Field produced red facing bricks.
The site is marked on editions 1 to 4 O.S maps., and mentioned in R Perks, "George Bargebrick".
The site has been cleared for redevelopment.
