This site is adjacent to Swanscombe Skull Site National Nature Reserve and is one of the few surviving locations known to contain the full sequence of Barnfield Pit deposit phases I, II and III including the Acheulian skull horizon and the Clactonian occupation surface at the top of the Lower Loam. Part of this area is designated as a SSSI and although no finds are known from the site due to it never have been excavated, it was referenced in the SRPP (1) to highlight its importance.
