[TQ 51397018 - sited from O.S. 25" 1961] A Middle Acheulian type biface flint axe was found in 1956, on the surface of a field at Hextable Horticultural Institute tennis court (near Rowhill). It was donated to the museum by A/c Hopkins, M.W. (5063/91), Hut 454, 1 Wing, 1 Squadron, 45 of R.T., R.A.F., Wilmslow, Cheshire. (1)(2)

Hopkins was a student at the Institute in 1956. He now works in Sussex. No further information. (3)(a)

Find was one of the handaxes recorded by Roe in the 1960s from the Horticultural Institute (5), later attributed by him as bout coupé (6). It was then listed twice under slightly different descriptions and at two different locations in the Southern Rivers Project (7).
