In 1991 an assessment for the A260 Hawkinge and Denton bypass was undertaken. During field walking a Medieval pottery assemblage was observed , south east of Shelvin. This consisted of a small amount of late Medieval pottery. There were sherds of East Wealden shell filled sandy ware dating c.1175-1225, Rye/Canterbury sandy ware datable to the 14th-15th centuries and East Wealden pink sandy ware of 15th century. (1)
