TR 14895821. A mill and sluice belonging to the Abbot of St Augustines was situated on the Great Stour in Mill Lane. This mill was replaced by another built in 1795 by Smeaton, which was burnt down in 1933. Two cast iron pillars with decorated caps, a cast iron wheel shaft and bearings, all from the second mill, remain today. (1) (TR14925821 sited from CAT Topo Map). (2) Abbot of St Augustine's Mill. (3-4) The Abbot's Mill, on the eastern arm of the River Stour, stood close to the point where the river ran under the city wall in St Radegunds. A rioting mob attacked the abbey mill in St Radegunds in 1257. It finally went out of action after a fire in 1933. (5)
