One of five bastions situated on the Medieval town wall between between Riding Gate and Wincheap Gate. It was restored between 1956-62. It is semi-circular in plan with a battered ashlar plinth built against an earth revetment. It is part of the southern boundary the the Dane John Public Gardens.

(TR 14915742) Bastion [NR]. (1) The wall between Riding Gate and Wincheap Gate has been much restored probably 1956-62. The semi-circular bastions, much restored, stand to their full height. (2) Tower No 4. One of five medieval towers preserved between Worth Gate [TR 15 NW 187] and Riding Gate [TR 15 NW 141]. All are semicircular and open, with a battered ashlar plinth built against an earth revetment. All contain gun ports but may not have been built until the late 15th century. (3)
