(TR 15145752. Sited from CAT Topo map). Cattle Market. (1-2) The cattle market of Canterbury was held at the end of Dover Street under the eastern walls until 1955. The name Rithercheape, Retherchieape, applied to Dover Street was still current in the 16th century but forgotten by 1640. The occurence in the 12th century goesa long way to correct Dover Street with the "hrytheraceap" named in a Canterbury charter of 1003 and with the "ryther ceap" outside the eastern walls in a charter of 923.
