Summary

One of four defensive towers thought to have been constructed by Prior Chillenden at the time the stretch of city wall between Queningate and Northgate was rebuilt between 1390 and 1396. This length of wall with its towers formed part of the western boundary of the monastery circa 1492-1493.

[TR 15175813] Tower [NR] (rems of) [NAT]. (1) Built c1391-1411. (2) Roofless and reduced in height. (3) Tower 14. One of four medieval square towers, built by Chillenden, between Queningate [TR 15 NE 122] and North Gate [TR 15 NE 160]. Preserved. (4)
