A boat yard was operated on this site by Alexander Ring until 1864, and then by Edward Lemmon. They built dobles and bawleys for the local fishing fleet. Lemmon also built skiffs used by the hufflers at Rochester Bridge. There is one building on site fronting Canal Road which relates to the yard.
