In 2005 a test-pit (TP 1) was excavated at the Upnor Training Ground as part of the Medway Valley Palaeolithic Project by Francis Wenban-Smith. As well as clarifying the geological sequence, two flakes were found from the sieving of basal gravels. The flakes were unpatinated and slightly-abraded. They were undiagnostic technologically, though the larger one had hints of a Levallois approach (1).
