Within the parish of Upchurch are extensive gravel pits, wherein various Palaeolithic implements have been found. (1) Palaeolithic handaxe from Upchurch [TQ 844 675] is in Bournemouth Natural Science Society Museum. (2)

Name changed by F. Wenban-Smith. Formerly referred to as "Palaeolithic implements, found in Upchurch." [3]
