The Canterbury Uad states that The Waggoner's Arms, in Whitstable Road, near Forty Acres Road, was first licensed in 1834 with Stephen Rogers as innkeeper. In 1835 he was still there, by 1855 the inn was being run by Mr G Lilley. In 1862 the innkeeper was Emma Hobbs (spinster) and in 1865 it was Stephen Maple, according to the directory; he was still there in 1867.

The inn closed about four years later and by 1900 this pleasantly designed house was and still is a private house. In 1900 it was the home of Mrs Croft. The directory for 1930 names the occupant of 22 Whitstable Road as Mrs Gilbert.
