Summary

A Lime and Cement works, established by Milton, Anderson & Son. It used Hoffmann kilns and was operated by Hilton, Anderson, Brooks & Co. from 1893. The site comprised several structures and a bank of lime kilns was situated at the southern end of the complex. The works closed in 1925. All that now survives at the site is a wash mill next to the former works Institute building as well as remains of buildings and the tramway system. The buried remains of the lime kiln bank may also survive.

Milton, Anderson & Son established a Lime & Cement works it used Hoffmann kilns and was operated by Hilton, Anderson, Brooks & Co. from 1893.(1) Closed 1925.(2) A large complex of buildings along the bank of the Medway that was expanded by 1900 with several structures filling gaps between existing buildings. A bank of Lime kilns were situated at the southern end of the complex (at TQ 7055 6384) with the main works continuing to the north at TQ 7062 6399.(3) The works has been cleared but a wash mill survives at TQ 7052 6395 next to the former works Institute building.The buried remains of the lime kiln bank may survive and several other remains of buildings and the tramway system remains in a wooded area behind the church.(4)
The wash mill has since been removed, the only structure remaining being the tramway embankment and viaduct in Ferry Kane behing Halling Church [2009] (5)
