During excavations undertaken by Weachter at Barnfield Pit, Swanscombe between 1968 and 1972, a number of fossil land surfaces were identified at horizons within the lower loam deposits. During excavations undertaken by Weachter at Barnfield Pit, Swanscombe between 1968 and 1972, a number of fossil land surfaces were identified at horizons within the lower loam deposits. Many of these contained animal footprints. Nearly 100 were recorded (though more may have existed) mainly coming from the main excavation area and trench E. Many species were identified including Cervid and bovine prints, small carnivores and large mammals (including elephants and rhino). (1)
