Worked flints including thinning flaked were recorded during excavations undertaken in the south eastern corner of Barnfield pit by Wymer in the years 1950-1955. The excavations were concentrated on the upper middle gravel and upper loam deposits which had been identified on multiple previous occasions across the area occupied by the pit. Three assemblage types within the finds are suggested by Wymer: The Clactonian, which was always stratified beneath, and therefore earlier than the Acheulian, and two variants of the Acheulian. (1)
