During recording work undertaken on the sections at Barnfield pit in the late 1920s and early 1930s, finds including handaxes, flint flakes and animal remains were identified, largely within the gravel deposits. In detail the position of shell and bone was identified at the top of the lower gravel, handaxes and flint flakes at the top of the lower middle gravel, abundant Theodoxus Cantianus (freshwater snail) in the middle of the lower gravel and further handaxes and flint flakes at the top of the lower gravel.
