Title:Land adjacent to Pested Bars Road, Boughton Monchelsea, Maidstone, Kent: A Post-Excavation and Update Project Design
Originator:Museum of London Archaeology Service
Date:1998
Summary:Adjacent to Pested Bars Road two major areas were examined based on previous geophysical and evaluation work. The site of the Lockham Roman walled cemetery was revealed. The outer walls and internal funereary monuments, with exception of the circular tomb, had been robbed out following the 1821 excavation by Taylor Smythe. Outside of the robbed walls four cremations with grave goods, of Roman date, were found. In the middle of the site a number of ditches, pits and post-holes were found. It is unclear at present whether they date from the Late Iron Age or Early Anglo Saxon periods.
